INDYCAR: Brown to engineer Brabham entry
attempts to qualify for the 100th Indianapolis 500
.Brown was the assistant technical director when Al Unser Jr. won the 1992 Indy 500 in Galles Racing's self-built Galmer chassis and went on to engineer Sam Hornish Jr.'s back-to-back Indy Racing League titles in 2001 and '02 at Panther Racing.
"Andy has done so much in the sport and we believe he will be the perfect fit for a young talent like Matt [Brabham]," said KV team manager Steve Moore.
Brabham, a rookie, has spent the past four seasons on the Mazda Road to Indy ladder, winning titles in both USF2000 and Pro Mazda. He would be the ninth Australian to qualify for the 500 since Rupert Jeffkins drove in the very first event in 1911.
Brown has worked with a Brabham before. In 1991, he became race engineer for Martin Brundle at the Brabham Formula 1 team.
"Matt is a terrific young lad with plenty of talent and the right work ethic. He also is in the business for the right reasons," Brown said in a statement. "That is a pretty good foundation for us to build on - his breeding is not too bad either. I think the 100th Indianapolis 500 is a event everyone in the business wants to be a part of and to be going there with an exciting new team and a talented young driver with the name, Brabham, adds that little bit extra for me."
Brown and Brabham, who is also scheduled to compete in the Angie's List Grand Prix of Indianapolis, will work together in a road course test later in April before some sessions on the Dallara simulator in Indianapolis.
Brown has recently been involved with 2013 British Touring Car champion Andrew Jordan in the British Touring Car Championship.
