IMSA: Sebring 12 Hours live report

Follow the 64th running of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring from start to finish on RACER.com.

10:40 p.m. ET: But Derani doesn't lose! No. 2 Tequila Patron car wins for the second straight race; Dane Cameron and Filipe Albuquerque in the Nos. 31 and 5 second and third. No. 54 PC car with Colin Braun wins that class; Tommy Milner in the No. 4 Corvette gives that team the Daytona-Sebring sweep, and in GTD, the No. 63 Ferrari 488 and Alessandro Balzan takes the victory.

We'll have a complete story shortly -- thanks for tuning in to our blog. On to Long Beach!

10:38 p.m. ET: Two minutes left, it's Derani's to lose.

10:35 p.m. ET: Derani to the lead. Daytona deja vu...

10:34 p.m. ET: Derani to second, 67 Ford GT off course...

10:31 p.m. ET: Derani to third, but those two Action Express Corvettes are awfully wide.

10:27 p.m. ET: Green flag on lap 231, 13 minutes left. Cameron out front.

10:25 p.m.: Loading up the DeltaWing... too bad, they came close to a decent finish. Not taking tires looking like a smart decision for the Action Express cars -- Derani will have so little time to take advantage of them. Pits are still closed...

10:22 p.m. ET: 50 in the rollback, but now the DeltaWing crashed under caution...

10:20 p.m. ET: Full-course yellow with 21 minutes to go.

10:17 p.m. ET: Albuquerque back in second, David Hinton in the 50 is off, no yellow.

10:11 p.m. ET: Green flag, lap 225, 30 minutes left...Cameron, Lapierre, Albuquerque, Pla...

10:03 p.m ET: Pits are finally open, the three leaders pit...

9:58 p.m. ET: Full-course caution with 44 minutes left. 88 PC spins again, should be interesting to see who pits when the pits open.

9:53 p.m. ET: Pipo Derani, with some help from a spinning No. 90 Corvette, is out front in a repeat of the Rolex 24 at Daytona. With 50 minutes left, he has a 5-second lead.

8:17 p.m. ET: Ready to go green on lap 174... Fittipaldi, Hunter-Reay, Cameron... good night so far for Chevrolet Corvette DPs. Two hours, 23 minutes left...

8:10 p.m. ET: Yellow! The No. 10 Wayne Taylor Corvette DP is off -- it has been having multiple problems with electrical issues and it Max Angelelli finally just parked it.

7:58 p.m. ET: Green flag on lap 157... Fittipaldi will lead in the 5 car, with Hunter Reay in the 90 behind him...

7:46 p.m ET: Yellow! The Nos. 38 and 88 PC cars spin, could see some critical pit stops.

7:44 p.m. ET: Sean Johnson in the 88 PC car slow on track, trying to nurse it the pits.

7:40 pm. ET: Three hours to go: Barbosa in the 5 has a 3.7-second lead over Hunter-Reay in the No. 90. Mark Wilkins in the 54 PC car leads; Bill Auberlen in the No. 25 BMW in GTLM, and Corey Lewis in the No. 16 Lambo leads in GT Daytona.

7:35 p.m. ET: The 85 PC car spins again, but this time it collects Lucas Luhr in the No. 100 BMW, which was in second place. No yellow. The No. 3 Corvette is in the pits...

7:28 p.m. ET: Green flag, Barbosa stalked by Hunter Reay...

Corvette's Jan Magnussen on his crash with Kevin Estre's Porsche:

"It's such a huge shame for everyone on the team, really. The weather made it really difficult out there. The decision to go to slicks felt wrong, but we did it. After a while I could see that times were coming down and I could build a little bit of temperature. I kept working at it. I don't know how far back we were but we were a long way but caught everything up. We got into the lead there for a very short while and then it all went south. It's a shame. (Kevin) Estre (911 driver) came and apologized. That's nice enough but it doesn't change the fact that we are in here building the car. I really, really feel bad for the crew because man, we were fast."

7:26 p.m. ET: We aren't out of the woods rain-wise... forecast says we could get a shower about 8:30, but it won't be heavy.

7:21 p.m. ET: The No. 85 PC car spins again. And now a yellow: Park Place Porsche stalled against the wall...

7:19 p.m. ET: Second place No. 2 car with Van Overbeek driving spins in the last turn... so did a PC car, maybe some oil on the track? Both just lost it. VO is still third, but way behind the Nos. 5 and 90 now.

7:14 p.m. ET: Green flag flies as darkness falls... Barbosa, Curran and Hunter-Reay lead, but Curran in the number 31 spins! He loses several positions getting back on track.

6:25 p.m. ET: An off by the No. 24, and a harder off by the No. 28 Lambo, no yellow.

6:21 p.m. ET: Derani into second and charging for first in the Tequila Patron car...

6:19 p.m. ET Green flag... then yellow again for a crash by Chris Miller in the No. 85 PC car that won Daytona... Green again, Scott Pruett out front in the No. 31 Action Express car.

6:12 p.m. ET: Kevin Estre treated and released. A truck just drove by carrying spare tire bundles to replace the once scattered by Estre and Magnussen... taking a while to rebuild Turn 1.

5:55 p.m. ET: The track has pretty much dried out... CRASH! Corvette No. 3 passes an Audi, hits a Porsche on the other side... Yellow flag.. the Corvette, with Magnussen, trying to drive back to the pits... but can't make it. Kevin Estre's Porsche wont be driving away...in the 911.

5:52 p.m. ET: Cars making regular pit stops. Pruett out front by 25 seconds over Barbosa, but he just made a pit stop. The DeltaWing is running well, in sixth overall... could it earn a solid finish tonight?

5:35 p.m. ET: Unusual: Derani spins the No. 2 ESM Ligier Honda trying to pass Scott Pruett in the No. 31.

5:30 p.m. ET: Filipe Albuquerque in the No. 5 Action Express still leads teammate Scott Pruett in the No. 31 AX Chevrolet DPs, but Pipo Derani is moving up while in third place in the Tequila Patron P2 car... the 911 Porsche leads GTLM, Colin Braun leads PC in the No. 54, and Matteo Cressoni leads GT Daytona in his No. 51 Ferrari.

5:15 p.m. ET: Flat tire for the 66 Ford GT and Sebastien Bourdais, limping into the pits... No. 4 Corvette to remove a piece of sign stuck to the front of the car; meanwhile the No. 3 car runs off the road -- tough 5 minutes for GT Le Mans cars.

4:52 p.m. ET: Just past halfway, the two Action Express Corvette DPs are ruling the roost. Good to see Scott Pruett up front... he's second in the No. 31 car to the No. 5.

4:36 p.m. ET: Cars on treaded rain tires, which quickly overheat unless the track is quite wet, are really struggling, including Scott Sharp.

4:24 p.m. ET: Scott Sharp may have problems with the No. 2 car... loses first to Albuquerque in the No. 5 car, and may lose second to Scott Pruett... another off for Marcelli in the 38 PC car...

4:18 p.m. ET: Looks like we could still get a shower in the next couple of hours, but the forecast is looking good at least until 9 p.m. or so... ready to go green... No. 2 and No. 10 get a great jump.

4:14 p.m. ET: Scott Sharp leads in the No. 2 Tequila Patron car... then four Corvette DPs. Goikberg spun the No. 85 and is having trouble getting the PC car going...Yellow flag! No. 50 Highway to Hell car with Dorsey Schroeder crashes.

Schroeder went wide to avoid a spun BMW, and rejoined through a huge puddle that put him in the middle of a fast pack of cars and he got nailed. 50 in the pits, Goikberg gets back on track in the PC car.

4:09 p.m. ET: Green flag -- the ESM car leads the pack.

The No. 55 Mazda made it to the pits, and is back on track... so is the number 66 Ford GT... Sebastien Bourdais now behind the wheel.

4:07 p.m. ET: IMSA is still adjusting the field prior to dropping the green flag.

4:03 p.m. ET: Under yellow, Spencer Pigot put the No. 55 Mazda into the wall...

3:50 p.m. ET: Red flag: 2 hours, 15 minutes, 9 seconds. Plus $5 for a slice of soggy pizza...

3:35 p.m. ET: Drivers are being called to the cars. But expect a lot of yellow-flag laps -- the track is drenched.

2:45 p.m. ET:  It's still raining, but IMSA announced that two crew members per car will be allowed to warm the engines. IMSA also thinks the race can restart in approximately one hour.

2:28 p.m. ET: Wow, certified Florida deluge for a moment there... we almost lost the big inflatable lemon stand. Thunder and lightning, and a miserable radar forecast -- this may be the Six Hours of Sebring...2:02 p.m. ET: Close lightning and thunder just a moment ago... raining too hard to be out and about without an umbrella. Some of the European drivers are ducking behind the pit garages for a smoke...

1:34 p.m. ET: Everybody coming into the pits... lightning and thunder and may be here a while. Aerial TV cameras unmanned, corner workers standing down... PA calling for a (voluntary) evacuation of the grandstands.Pierre Kaffer: "It's a good decision to stop." 1:32 p.m. ET: Until now, both of the Ford GTs have been quick with their best times in the 1:59 range -- same as the other fast GTLM cars.

Red flag... too much lightning in the area.

1:26 p.m. ET: Uh oh, number 66 Ford GT in the tires in Turn One... Dirk Muller.1:23 p.m. ET: Looks like we could be in for a long period of wet conditions. Pretty miserable out there now all the way around the track. Still a lot of rain out over the Gulf heading this way... sure would be nice if it dried up before dark. This is a scary place when it's wet at night. As for the crowd -- they barely seem to notice. Unlike any other race I've been to, the fans here are absolutely determined to enjoy their Sebring weekend.

Full yellow!

1:17 p.m. ET: The two Action Express cars are way ahead -- they love the rain. Clearly Gary Nelson and crew know how to set up a Corvette for the wet. And it IS wet, but no lightning for a while.1:07 p.m. ET: Green flag! Lap 59.1:04 p.m. ET: Four Corvette DPs up front, then a Mazda as the first P2 car.1:02 p.m. ET: Full course caution, stalled number 68 Ferrari. Lots of lightning behind the airport, still a ways off. Looks like we could get a little rain until about 4 pm, then there's a clear opening according to the radar.12:57 p.m. ET: The line is drying quickly, but off line, it's still very wet. Making for some chancy passing. Fittipaldi is out front; Miler in a Corvette is the top GTLM – 3 TLM cars are ahead of the fastest PC car now.12:53 p.m. ET: Lightning over past the airport. Several cars in... Penalties... 100, 98, 6, 88, 8, 55; working in closed pit: Running red light, 38 and 44; 25 stop plus 2 minutes for both offenses; 50 improper pass, three minutes, 540, improper pass, four minutes. Ouch...12:49 p.m. ET: Green! Fittipaldi leads, team Action Express car second.

12:43 p.m. ET: Cars are circulating faster than they were... no real rain, but still some in the area but Sebring dodged a major bullet, as most of the storm went north. It's cooler where it had passed through, and cooler here... temperature could still drop as much as 10 degrees from where we are now.12:32 p.m. ET: Rain here and there again. The mini Air Titan is hard at work.12:25 p.m. ET: The rain has almost stopped, but lots of water still on the track. Still more rain in the area.12:20 p.m. ET: Townsend Bell moved the barriers in his hit in the No. 11 Lamborghini... he's OK, but the barriers need work.12:17 p.m. ET: Full course yellow.12:15 p.m. ET: Thunderstorm warning forecast down to 80 percent, from 100. 55 Mazda spins. Rain coming down harder.12:11 p.m. ET: 70 Mazda spins, take a long time to get back on track. The 90 Visit Florida car plows off course, picks up up a grille full of dirt.12:07 p.m. ET: The 38 PC car slides off track but recovered... rain hard on front stretch for 30 seconds, then it's over.12:04 p.m. ET: The top cars are in the pits... wets or drys? Tossup right now...12:01 p.m. ET: Here comes the heavy rain...11:55 a.m. ET: Pla leads but here comes Derani in the ESM car... past Fittipaldi for second and closing in on Pla.11:54 a.m. ET: The 55 Mazda in the pits for a speeding penalty.11:50 a.m. ET: The 44 Magnus Audi pits. The Viper is back on track, under full power. The 28 Lambo pits.11:48 a.m. ET: The rain is starting, but light. Pla is out front, then Fittipaldi and Derani. Goikberg leads PC, Milner is a Corvette leads GTLM, and McMurry in the 73 Porsche leads GTD. Green flag!11:44 a.m. ET: Dream Racing Lamborghini stalled on track during caution.11:42 a.m. ET: Looking at the radar, it appears most of the approaching storm will go north of us. Appears the NHRA Gatornationals up in Gainesville and being hammered. Still yellow – not a lot of takers for a pit stop.
11:39 a.m. ET: First yellow: Stalled car. Bleekemolen, BTW, thinks it may be a driveshaft on the Viper... Bill Sweedler in his Lamborghini, the reason for the caution, was towed off the course.11:36 a.m. ET: Viper finally makes it to the pit, creeping down the pavement. Driveline issue? Where's the Gas Monkey?11:33 a.m. ET: Bleekemolen in the Viper is in trouble... moving very slowly on track.11:30 a.m. ET: The two Ford GTs make a rather slow stop together... most of the field has come in, and most are double-stinting drivers.11:24 a.m. ET: Derani pits in the ESM car, no driver change. The 52 PC car comes in, and one of the BMW GT Le Mans cars.11:23 a.m. ET: The 5 and the 90 head for the pit, as does the Deltawing. So far no driver changes.11:19 a.m. ET: Approaching 40 minutes in, and we have our first pit stop: the leader, Pla, and Cameron.11:11 a.m. ET: Thirty minutes in, Pla leads Cameron by 4.5 seconds in P, Tom Kimber Smith leads in PC, Auberlen and Edwards out front in the two BMWs in GTL, and Jeff Segal in the Ferrari leads GTD.11:05 a.m. ET: Black flag for the number 28, GTD Lamborghini.10:56 a.m. ET: Pla is setting a blistering pace, 4.3 seconds ahead of Cameron and well into GTD lapped traffic.10:53 a.m. ET: With all the celebrities here, it appeared that Richard Rawlings, host of TV's "Gas Monkey Garage" and sponsor of the No. 33 Viper, was the star of the grid walk, for reasons that could not be determined. He's sort of the Kardashian of the automotive community.10:48 a.m. ET: The field is getting stretched out – Pla continues to lead in a car that pogos down the front straight like no other. Clouds are gathering... if the radar is correct, the leading edge should arrive by 1 p.m., and it will be wet for a while.10:41 a.m. ET:Cameron gets by Derani as the first lap is complete... Pla has a healthy lead. the two BMWs lead the GT field... The 27 Lambo pits after an apparently harmless spin... no caution.10:40 a.m. ET:Down the back stretch, approaching the flagstand – green! The Shank car is stretching out a lead, as the GT field gets the green...10:38 a.m. ET: The pace lap is done, Olivier Pla leads the field around in the No. 60 Shank Ligier Honda.10:37 a.m. ET: The crashed No 21 Lamborghini GTD will not make the start.
10:31 a.m ET: The start engine command is given, the National Anthem is over, three P-51s are overhead, and 49 cars are ready to go. Race strategy will be critical – rain is coming, a 100 percent forecast. Should hit about noon.

The cars are underway...

10:00 a.m. ET: Race start is 40 minutes away. One significant change has taken place on the 48-deep grid as PC polesitters CORE autosport have changed drivers for the start, which, per IMSA's rules, means the No. 54 will start from the bottom of the PC grid.
