INDYCAR: Former driver receives 25-year prison sentence
Jon Herb at the 2007 Indianapolis 500
Jon Herb, who took part in 16 IndyCar Series events and made the field for two Indianapolis 500s, was given a 25-year prison sentence in Collier County, Fla., on Monday for "child sexual abuse and pornography possession," according to the Naples Daily News.
The 45-year-old Herb (LEFT), who also became an IndyCar team owner under the "Racing Professionals" banner, "chose not to pursue a planned insanity defense on 248 felony charges, opting instead to plead no contest to the two most serious charges — lewd and lascivious molestation — and 13 counts of child pornography possession. Following his release from prison, Herb will be on probation for life," the NDN added.
In the report, Herb's ex-wife is said to have alerted the authorities to three videos found on Herb's laptop where a toddler performed sexual acts on the former driver.
