NASCAR: MWR's Miller takes competition role
Michael Waltrip Racing's Scott Miller will join NASCAR as its new vice president of competition. Miller replaces Robin Pemberton, who announced on Tuesday that he was leaving the governing body at the end of this year. The competition role includes NASCAR officiating, rule development and technical inspections.
Miller has spent more than two decades in NASCAR following time as a motorcycle and lower-level stock car racer, and a five-year stint as an IndyCar chief mechanic.
Before joining MWR, which is scaling back to a part-time Sprint Cup program next year, Miller had also worked with Richard Childress Racing.
"I'm looking forward to using the experience I've gained working within teams in an entirely new way at NASCAR," said Miller, who was executive vice president of competition at MWR. "Our sport has evolved quickly over the last several seasons through advanced technology and its creative application in the garage area. We will strive to continue this forward momentum while assuring a level playing field and competitive racing.
"It's a challenging opportunity and a logical next step for me. I can't wait to get started."
