Nikko Reger column: Ready for the next step

Hello again! It's Nikko Reger.

As I write this, my full preparation for next year's racing season has begun. As exciting as last season was, I have now set forth a huge endeavor to be competitive in my new series. And it comes with great pleasure to announce I will be racing in the brand new Global MX-5 Cup with Copeland Motorsports!

This is a huge step for me! Finishing third as a rookie in the Skip Barber Pro Challenge was a feat in itself, but I'm ready to continue growing. I will attempt to beat out some of the best drivers in the nation for a grand prize of $200,000 and a chance to race in the global shootout against drivers from all over the world. WOW! It's hard to believe that a few short years ago I was sitting in a go-kart, just wishing I could race in a pro league, and now my chance is finally here.

It's a huge leap of faith to take as I have to trust in myself in a new car with a new team. For my family and sponsors to believe in my abilities is the greatest privilege I have ever accepted in my life thus far. I am so happy to have raced in the Skip Barber Pro Challenge last year, the skills and connections I had developed from last year will undoubtedly resonate into the upcoming season.

I honestly cannot wait to be put to the test and get into a car with the Copeland team behind me. From what I had witnessed last season I absolutely believe in their ability to put together a sensational season-winning car.

So here's the truth. Alhough the new series is massive, exciting, and will be action-packed, I must begin all of the work for next season. Everything from gathering sponsors, training daily, and studying track notes and refining my driving skills. We are also looking into the Skip Barber Summer Series to keep my driving skills sharp. The series itself is competitive and will allow me to race with the best in between MX-5 Cup races.

Though the season doesn't officially begin until May, it feels as if my season never ended. Through all of my training, school work and racing studies, my toils haven't slowed a bit.

Every day is a new adventure for myself. Every situation has presented me with a new set of challenges. I have approached every aspect of my life with a mindset to learn, adapt and evolve. Even in times of struggle and adversity, I tackle them with the speed and perseverance I develop on track.

Thank you so much for reading and I would love to hear from all of you.

Signing off, until next time,
Nikko Reger
