CTSC: Bodymotion Racing joins GS with Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport

Bodymotion Racing will add to its presence in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge with a new Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport to compete in the Grand Sport class for the full 2016 season. The team will continue running a Porsche Cayman competing in Street Tuner competition.

Cameron Cassels will join veteran Rene Villeneuve in the new car, beginning with the Roar Before the Rolex 24 test at Daytona International Speedway on Jan. 8-10.“The Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport is Porsche Motorsports version of the highly desired Cayman GT4 production model that is offered by Porsche Cars of North America,” said Bodymotion racing team principal Mike Bavaro. “The majority of the body shell is made of aluminum combined with a 3.8 liter engine and a PDK transmission. The car will arrive this December with a safety cage, fuel cell, air jacks and no interior; otherwise, it is a production car.”Cassels and Villeneuve drove for Bodymotion in the team’s GS Porsche 911 at the 2015 season-ending round at Road Atlanta, finishing 11th. Cassels is a relative newcomer to sports car racing from Coldstream, B.C., Canada. He is excited to finally get behind the wheel of the new car and work with Bodymotion and Porsche Motorsports throughout the car’s development.“We believe that this car will be competitive against the Mustangs, Nissans, Camaros and BMWs even in its first year of development,” Cassels said. Cassels began racing in an organized series in 1999 with the Legends car series in Western Canada. In 2002 he committed to running a full season with hopes of a championship. His peers voted him as the ‘Racer of the Year’ at the end of the exciting season. In 2015, he participated in the Skip Barber Summer Series with their formula racecars. His first road race saw him standing on the podium in his first time driving at Road Atlanta and the first time racing one of the Skip Barber cars. Cassels competed in Skip Barber races, with seven podium finishes including a victory at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.Born in the United States to a family with strong roots in Canada, Villeneuve grew up in the USA, Canada and France. Following his dream, he started racing in 1987 when he attended the Spenard-David Racing School in Canada run by Richard Spenard – a popular and former teammate of Gilles Villeneuve in Formula Atlantic. His racing career is long and diverse, with many highlights including World Challenge, American Le Mans Series, Rolex Series and Historics from 1987 to the present. His highlights include two second-place finishes in ALMS GTC races at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca“Cameron and I drove for Bodymotion at Road Atlanta this past October in the worst rain conditions ever, and did well in the teams’ 911. The driver, engineers, and team all worked very well together and I believe this will be the key to a successful 2016 campaign,” Villeneuve said.
