The Underdog, Champion and Hard-Charger enter climatic finish of coveted Skip Barber Summer Series
The Skip Barber Racing School Summer Season is coming to a close, but the action is just heating up as racers approach an unprecedented climax at Skip Barber Racing School's home track, Road Atlanta.
Chase Owen
, (ABOVE), this season's underdog, in prime position to win it with 435 points followed by last year's champion, Timo Reger, close behind with 429 points, the action will be nail-biting. These two racers also have a hard-charger hot on their heels with Dakota Dickerson sitting in third with 427 points. With a full two races left in the season, only one thing is guaranteed: the last two races of the season will be an exciting finish to the competitive season.Owen is working to follow in the footsteps of past Skip Barber Racing Academy Winner Michai Stephens, who continues to show why he has what it takes after securing consecutive spots in the Team USA Scholarship Competition.
However, despite Owen's big dreams, he is the clear underdog of the group. Owen took a Three-Day Racing School a little over a year ago after tricking his family into taking a "golf trip" near Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Owen took his Three-Day Racing school during this time, and entered the Skip Barber Racing Academy. He would later win the shootout and enter the Skip Barber Race Series.
Despite his short tenure in a car, one can't dispute his talent. Owen has secured eight wins and 14 podiums in his short career - an unprecedented number for this relatively new racer. He sits in first of the championship with the unique position to be the first Skip Barber Racing Academy Champion to win a Skip Barber Summer Series championship. His goal will be hotly contested by a determined and disciplined champion on his heels: Timo Reger (LEFT).
Reger, last season's champion, is more focused than ever. He understands there is a target on his back due to last season's win , but like most champions, he is undeterred. His consistency in the season has allowed him to be in prime position to win it, but with the position also comes the ability to lose it. He is only six points behind his rival Chase Owen and understands his performance at Road Atlanta will need to be nothing short of flawless in order to secure this season's championship.
Dickerson (RIGHT) is the recent hard-charger of the group, making his own ripples in the racing community. He was chosen to represent the United States of America in the TEAM USA Scholarship with Stephens. Dickerson is a fantastic technical racer and saw great success in Europe in his first year competing in the TEAM USA Scholarship competition.
He will enter the Road Atlanta race weekend coming off a sweep of VIRginia International Raceway as well as more seat time in the past month than any other driver in the series. His time in the racecar in Europe will surely give Dickerson an upper hand entering the finale. Despite Dickerson's solid showing under pressure, he will have two talented racers to catch in order to secure the championship.
These three racers will race their hearts out beginning today at Road Atlanta. Other competitors looking to do well in the weekend in hopes to secure a spot in the coveted Championship Shootout include Jorge Herrera who sits in fourth with 404 points, David Porcelli with 368 points and Daniele De La Calle with 381 points.
