FE: Trulli team's future under discussion

 Discussions are being held over the Trulli Formula E team's future in the championship after it missed its second consecutive event of the 2015-'16 season in Putrajaya.

Trulli's Motomatica JT-01s did not pass the required additional safety checks new cars have to undergo when they are scrutineered for the first time after homologation. That followed a customs issue in China that prevented it from taking part in the Beijing season opener.

It is understood the championship has a variety of penalty options for teams that miss two rounds, with expulsion the most severe. The next event is in Uruguay on Dec. 19 and Formula E CEO Alejandro Agag suggested there would be an update by then.

"We are at the moment discussing with [Trulli] the situation," he said. "I think obviously the situation will change. We have to see exactly how, but when you develop new technology there are always risks involved.

"We have seen very successful diversity of powertrains fighting in the championship but one has not achieved the safety standards needed for this kind of powertrain, or the technical standard. We have to see how we now manage that situation. I think the end of the sequence of events will be a strong boost for the championship."

There is hope around the future of the team because it is understood Trulli could receive investment from a new partner. However it is unknown if it would be as a supplier or as a complete takeover of the entry.

Prior to its withdrawal from the Putrajaya round, team founder Jarno Trulli said the team had dropped Salvador Duran for a "breach of contract."
