John Greenwood and his Corvettes to be celebrated at Classic 24 Hour at Daytona

A tribute to the late John Greenwood, and the fantastic Corvette racecars that made him famous, will be among the highlight features of the second edition of the Classic 24 Hour at Daytona, Nov. 12-15.

In addition to discount pricing on a full-weekend ticket to the Classic 24 Hour at Daytona, the special promotion includes a Thursday, Nov. 12, schedule of tributes and celebration of Greenwood and his Corvettes. Plans call for a panel discussion centering on Greenwood and his career at 11 a.m., which is scheduled to be followed by a display of the groundbreaking Greenwood C3 Corvettes from noon to 3 p.m. The day will close with a reception at 4 p.m. that includes awards and prizes. The Greenwood tribute has picked up some notable supporters in recent weeks with both the National Corvette Museum and the Registry of Corvette Race Cars joining the celebration. The Museum is bringing a Greenwood-equipped Corvette racecar, a 1972 chassis, with an accomplished on-track record from its collection to be on display at the Classic 24 Hour at the Greenwood tribute.

Race fans will also have at least a pair of Greenwood Corvettes to follow all weekend in the Classic 24 Hour as the French-based Caldentey Engineering team is returning to Daytona after participating in last year’s inaugural event. Drivers Didier André, French Porsche Carrera Cup standout Jules Gounon and his father, former Formula 1 driver Jean Marc Gounon, are entered in 1976 and 1979 Greenwood Corvettes. The team was among the most popular at Daytona with its Greenwood Corvettes last year at the Classic 24.
