BSS: WRT reveals Vanthoor stand-in plan
The injured Laurens Vanthoor has been replaced by Christopher Mies in the WRT Audi lineup for this weekend's Blancpain Sprint Series finale at Zandvoort.
Audi factory driver Mies moves into WRT's lead R8 LMS ultra alongside championship leader Robin Frijns from the #2 WRT entry he normally shares with Enzo Ide. Belgian Ide is unavailable for this weekend courtesy of work commitments, which means WRT will have two drivers new to the BSS in the second of its two entries.
Nicki Thiim, also part of Audi's pool of GT drivers, has been drafted in to share the car with Belgian Frederic Vervisch, who raced an Audi for the Czech ISR team in this year's Spa 24 Hours.
Vanthoor suffered leg and hip injuries when he crashed during the qualifying race for last weekend's penultimate round of the BSS at Misano.
Frijns and Vanthoor sit eight points clear at the top of the championship from HTP Motorsport Bentley duo Maximilian Buhk and Vincent Abril.
Norbert Siedler also has an outside chance of the title and will share his regular Rinaldi Ferrari 458 Italia with late stand-in Jeroen Bleekemolen.
