IMSA: Series planning multiple Justin Wilson tributes for COTA

The Verizon IndyCar Series, Formula 1, and FIA World Endurance Championship have honored the late Justin Wilson during their respective events held after the Briton's death on Aug. 24, and with next weekend's Lone Star Le Mans event at Circuit of The Americas, IMSA will have its first opportunity to celebrate Wilson in competition.

The Sept. 18-19 event held at the Austin road course will see all four of IMSA's TUDOR United SportsCar Championship classes in action, and in addition to the

tribute livery planned by Wilson's former Michael Shank Racing team

, IMSA will celebrate Wilson – who was a regular participant in the series – throughout the weekend.

"We will pay tribute to Justin Wilson and support the efforts of the Wilson Children's Fund throughout our event at Circuit of The Americas," said IMSA President Scott Atherton. "He was a highly regarded and valued member of the sports car racing community, particularly as part of the Michael Shank Racing endurance lineup for many years, and his loss is felt throughout our community. We will honor his memory and legacy appropriately in Austin."

MSR's No. 60 Ligier JS P2-Honda, which Wilson drove in March at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring (pictured, RIGHT), will be parked at the head of the IMSA grid during the pre-race fan walk, and a moment of silence will be held prior to the 2h40m Lone Star Le Mans TUDOR Championship race.

After the command to start engines has been given, the No. 60, piloted by one of Wilson's longtime teammates (Ozz Negri or John Pew) will lead the field on the first parade lap and then fall into its qualifying position after the start of the second warm-up lap.

A video of Wilson's achievements in sports car racing, including the popular overall victory at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona in 2012 with MSR, will be shown during the parade laps, and FOX, which serves as the broadcaster for the TUDOR Championship, will also air a tribute video. IMSA will distribute stickers designed by Andy Blackmore to its teams to use if desired, and the series will assist in connecting supporters with the Wilson Children's Fund donation link at

.

Justin Wilson's brother Stefan Wilson is expected to attend the event, and some of the Justin Wilson charity t-shirts could also be for sale at COTA.

Continuing their efforts outside of COTA, IMSA will donate two VIP "Behind The Scenes" packages for the upcoming eBay auction that will benefit the Wilson Children's Fund. The packages provide unrivaled access to the series, drivers, cars, and areas of the sport that are only available through this offer. One VIP experience package will be available for bid for the TUDOR Championship season finale at Road Atlanta on Oct. 2-3 for Petit Le Mans, and the other will be available for the 2016 Rolex 24 at Daytona.

Additional information on the eBay auction and IMSA's VIP Behind The Scenes packages will be available next week.
