
PWC: Van de Zande fastest in GT practice at Sonoma
Renger van der Zande posted the fastest time in Friday's 30-minute GT, GTA and GT Cup practice at Sonoma Raceway, at the Pirelli World Challenge Grand Prix of Sonoma presented by Kia. Frankie Montecalvo was fastest in GTA, while Alec Udell, of The Woodlands, Texas was fastest in GT Cup presented by MOMO.
Baldwin fastest in GTS practice
Weather conditions for the session were 68 degrees under partly cloudy skies.
Early on, Robert Thornein the No. 6 K-PAX Racing McLaren 650S GT3 posted a 1:37.704. James Davison in the No. 33 AE/ReplayXD/NISSAN NISMO GT-R GT3 then posted a 1:36.633.
Thorne again jumped to the top with a 1:36.531, followed by GTA points leader Montecalvo, in the No. 66 Bayshore Racing DragonSpeed Mercedes-Benz AMG SLS GT3 with a 1:36.764. Montecalvo then went to the top of the charts with a 1:35.160 followed by Kevin Estre in the No. 9 K-PAX Racing McLaren 650S GT3 with a 1:35.055 and Thorne who bettered his previous time with a 1:35.465
Michael Lewis in the No. 41 EFFORT Racing/Curb-Agajanian Porsche 911 GT3R then went to the top of the charts with a 1:34.448, followed by teammate van der Zande, in the No. 31 EFFORT Racing/World PMO Porsche 911 GT3R with a 1:34.793, and Estre with a 1:35.055.
Van de Zande then posted the fastest time with a 1:33.919. Late in the session, Guy Smith in the No. 20 Bentley/Breitling/Mobil1 Team Bentley Dyson Racing Bentley Continental GT3 posted the second fastest time of the session with a 1:34.116.
Montecalvo's time of 1:35.160 remained the fastest time in GTA.
In GT Cup, Udell, in the No. 17 Amsource Capital/Panther Pipeline Porsche 911 GT3 Cup topped the charts with a 1:41.027, followed by Lorenzo Trefethen in the No. 13 Trefethen Family Vineyards ANSA Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup with a 1:41.190. Phil Fogg Jr. in the No. 18 Zoro/Truspeed TruSpeed Autosport Porsche 911 GT3 Cup posted the third-fastest GT Cup class time of the session with a 1:41.304.
