Rain Continues But Speeds Pick Up in Second Practice
Nick Tandy turned in the fastest overall lap of the day as light rain, damp track conditions and a red flag reduced speeds during Friday’s afternoon’s second TUDOR United SportsCar Championship practice at Road America. The recent overall winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans turned a lap of 2:23.218 in the No. 911 Porsche North America Porsche 911 RSR he shares in the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class with Patrick Pilet.
Michael Valiante was second fastest and led the Prototype class, running 2:24.480 in the No. 90 VisitFlorida.com Corvette DP. Second in the class and seventh overall was Jordan Taylor, 2:27.372 in the No. 10 Konica Minolta Corvette DP. Defending Road America winner Christian Fittipaldi was third and 12th overall, 2:30.489 in the No. 5 Mustang Sampling Corvette DP.Earl Bamber in the No. 912 Porsche North America Porsche 911 RSR was second in GTLM and third overall with a lap of 2:24.541. Third was Dirk Werner, running 2:24.788 in the No. 24 IHG Rewards Club BMW Z4 GTLM.Renger van der Zande was fastest in Prototype Challenge (PC) with a lap of 2:26.556 in the No. 8 Martini ORECA FLM09. Leading GT Daytona (GTD) was Spencer Pumpelly in the No. 73 Park Place Porsche 911 GT America, 2:37.533.The one-hour session was red flagged for 30 minutes for track cleanup following a mechanical issue involving the No. 16 Top 1 Oil/Jet Suites/Edvisors ORECA FLM09.Saturday morning activities begin with a final one-hour session beginning at 10:15 a.m. ET. Qualifying to set the field for Sunday’s Continental Tire Road Race Showcase begins at 4:35 p.m. ET, and will be streamed live on IMSA.com and the IMSA mobile app.
