Ferrari North America Road America Pre-Race Report

August 5, 2015 (Englewood Cliffs, N.J.) – One of North America’s classic road racing circuits, Road America, was the site of one of Ferrari’s victories in the 2014 IMSA United SportsCar Championship.

Driven by Giancarlo Fisichella and Pierre Kaffer, the no. 62 Risi Competizione Ferrari 458 Italia scored a come-from-behind victory in the GT-LeMans class. From the ninth position, the car advanced to fifth before fast pit work enabled to Ferrari to leapfrog its competition and score victory. The teammates, who have scored podium finishes at Sebring and Long Beach this season, will be looking to repeat their form and add to Risi Competizione’s number of victories at Road America which now stands at three. At their most recent race at the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park they finished in the sixth position in the GT-LeMans class. For Ferrari’s GT-Daytona class car, drivers Townsend Bell and Bill Sweedler remain in the hunt for the championship in the no. 63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 458 Italia with four races remaining in the season. Bell and Sweedler finished in fifth place at Road America last season in a similar Ferrari, and have scored a best finish of the season of third at the 12 Hours of Sebring. Despite suffering heavy contact at the previous race at Lime Rock, the duo closed the gap to the GT-Daytona championship leaders. While Bell and Sweedler share the fourth position, they are a mere ten points behind the championship leaders. Ferrari is currently in second position in the GT-Daytona manufacturer’s championship. This weekend’s race will be broadcast live on Sunday, August 9 at 3:00 PM ET on FOX Sports 1. Qualifying will be streamed live on Saturday, August 8 at 4:35 PM ET.
