Clarkson, Hammond, May to start new show on Amazon Prime

The BBC's loss is Amazon's gain. The three stars of the popular motoring TV show "Top Gear" are moving to online-only show to be created by Amazon, the online retailer confirmed on Thursday.

After Clarkson was removed from "Top Gear" earlier this year following an altercation with a producer, the other two presenters also left the program.

The show, which has not yet is unnamed for now, but will be produced by long-running "Top Gear" executive producer Andy Wilman (not the one Clarkson had his run-in with). "I feel like I've climbed out of a bi-plane and into a spaceship," Clarkson said.

Amazon says the presenting team have committed to three seasons for the new show, with the debut episode arriving in 2016.

The new show will be a significant addition to Amazon's lineup of self-produced content via its Amazon Prime Instant Video service, as it duels with Netflix in the streaming-TV market.

Meanwhile, the BBC plans to relaunch "Top Gear" with a new cast. Yesterday,

Britain's Daily Mail reported that former F1 world champion Jenson Button was under consideration to be one of the presenters

for the revived show.
