WEC: Strakka shakes down Gibson LMP2

The Strakka Racing team gave its new Gibson LMP2 contender a shakedown on Tuesday ahead of its switch to the British-built car for the season's remaining World Endurance Championship rounds.

The British team, which announced its decision to abandon the Strakka Dome S103 project earlier this month, ran the Nissan-powered Gibson 015S at the Turweston airfield near its Silverstone base. Jonny Kane drove the new car, completing eight or nine runs up and down the runway ahead of its first proper test at the Nurburgring next week.

Strakka technical director Jay Davenport told AUTOSPORT: "Today was just a systems check and everything functioned perfectly."

The car has been purchased from the Greaves Motorsport squad and is the chassis that won the opening round of the European Le Mans Series at Silverstone in April.

Kane will test the Gibson along with regular co-drivers Danny Watts and Nick Leventis at the 'Ring next Monday and Tuesday. The test, booked by the Toyota LMP1 squad, will also be attended by rivals Porsche and Audi.

Strakka's Dome will now be used as a development mule as the team gears up to join the privateer P1 ranks in 2017 with a car of its own design.
