Porsche North America Canadian Tire Motorsport Park Post-Qualifying Report
BOWMANVILLE, Ontario, July 12, 2015 - In sharp contrast to the TUDOR United Sports Car Championship race just 140 miles south in Watkins Glen, NY two weeks ago where qualifying was "rained out," the weather could not have been any better for this afternoon's 15-minute GT Le Mans (GTLM) qualifying session. Porsche Factory driver and most recent 24-Hours of Le Mans overall winner Nick Tandy, who shares his 911 racecar with Patrick Pilet, took advantage of testing here at the famed 2.459-mile circuit earlier in the week and placed the No. 911 Team Porsche North America's 911 RSR on the class pole for tomorrow's 2:40 minute contest. This is the second GTLM class pole for Porsche in 2015, and the first time a driver repeated capturing the Pole in the TUDOR United Sports Car Championship's history. Tandy captured the Pole at last year's inaugural season ending 10-Hour race at Petit Le Mans.
Porsche Factory Driver teammate Jörg Bergmeister, co-driving with the other 919 Hybrid driver and overall Le Mans champion Earl Bamber, placed the No. 912 sister car in sixth. In an example of just how tight the GTLM class competition is, the most recent GTLM class winners, the No. 17 Team Falken Tire 911 RSR, qualified their iconic rear-engined sports car in eighth position. Just 0.715 seconds separate the highly competitive eight-car field. The weather forecast for tomorrow shows partly cloudy, temperatures in the mid-80s (F) and 0% chance of rain, which should make for a fast race. The average speed of the Pole winning 911 RSR was over 118 mph. Please tune in starting at 12:00 noon EDT on FoxSports1 to watch the 2:40 minute contest, catch it streaming live on IMSA.com or the new, updated IMSA app.
