IMSA: WTR Corvette DP, Porsche GTLM take poles at CTMP
Ricky Taylor put the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette DP on pole for tomorrow's Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park with a solid lap of 1:09.705. Taylor and his brother Jordan will share the all-GM front row with the No. 5 Action Express Racing Corvette DP piloted by Christian Fittipaldi was third (1:09.864). Chip Ganassi Racing's Scott Pruett held the early overall pole in the No. 01 Ford EcoBoost DP, but settled for third (1:10.138) when the Corvettes found more pace.
"I think we have a really good racecar," said Ricky Taylor, who became the first repeat polesitter in Prototype this year. "It's nice to start the weekend like this; I'm thrilled the guys gave us such a great car. It was stressful, but I'm really happy."

German marques dominated GT Le Mans qualifying with the weekend's fastest man so far, Porsche North America's Nick Tandy, leading the pack with a new track record (1:14.829) in his No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR.
"That was pretty good, I think," said the newest overall winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans who, like Taylor in Prototype, became the first repeat polesitter in his class. "I thought we'd struggle in the hot conditions, and normally our little engine doesn't like it when the heat comes out but with did well enough at the other sections of the track."
Tandy's lap was just 0.028 seconds faster than Dirk Werner in the No. 25 BMW Team RLL Z4. Werner (1:14.857) was shadowed by his teammate Lucas Luhr who will start third in the No. 24 BMW Z4 (1:14.984). The big surprise during GTLM qualifying went to Corvette Racing as the pair of C7.Rs could only manage fifth and seventh in the eight-car class.
The entire PC field sent their Pro-Am drivers into time trials, and the pole belonged to Chris Cumming in the No. 11 RSR entry until the final seconds of the session until James French pipped the Canadian by 0.032 seconds. Like Taylor and Tandy, French completed the theme by becoming the first repeat pole winner in PC with the No. 38 Performance Tech Racing entry (1:12.667). Cumming (1:12.699) was comfortably ahead of Jon Bennet's No. 54 CORE autosport PC in third (1:13.007).
"It's awesome," said French's teammate, IndyCar driver Conor Daly. "I get to watch James start from pole. He's never been here before. I think we have a good shot [winning] at tomorrow."
Sunday's 2h45m race starts at 12 p.m. ET.
