SCCA: Northeastern Conference competition rolls on at Watkins Glen
Round Eight of the SCCA Northeastern Conference U.S. Majors tour wrapped up at Watkins Glen International under sunny skies at the 11-turn, 3.4-mile circuit

Once again, Race Group One produced some excellent on-track battles, the best of which came from the GT-Lite class. Kyle Disque, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, took the win in his No. 92 Toyota/TRD/Hoosier Tire Toyota Tercel. However, the win was far from easy as last-lap leader Wilson Wright missed a gear shift through the last section of turns before he would have claimed the class win for himself by crossing the line. The mistake proved to be enough to allow Disque by for the win.Group Two, the big-bore classes, saw another hard-fought battle in GT-2. This time Preston Calvert, of Potomac, Maryland, was able to turn the tables and get the win in his No. 77 Calvert Dynamic/Phoenix Performance Chevrolet Corvette. He was able to finish 0.137-second ahead of Saturday winner Tom Patton in his No. 77 Hoosier Tire/Redline Oil Sunbeam Tiger, to whom Calvert was runner-up.The small-bore formula race group provided an exciting battle for the lead that was decided by less than one second. Wes Allen, of Lexington, Kentucky, in his No. 6 Drivers Services/Lexair Swift DB6 finished just 0.181-second ahead of Keith Joslyn in Formula F. First-time winner Scott Rudolph, of Aberdeen, Maryland, and Roger Siebenaler, of Bellingham, Massachusetts, were winners in Formula 500 and Formula Vee, respectively. In Spec Miata, Todd Lamb, of Atlanta, Georgia, took home a barn-burner of a win. In his No. 84 Atlanta Speedwerks/SpeedShift Mazda Miata, Lamb held off a charging field of front-runners that included second-place Justin Hille and third-place Jim Drago. The 1.879-second margin of victory fails to show how close the racing was throughout the race's entire 15 laps.Denny Stripling, of McKinney, Texas, eeked out a win in Spec Racer Ford. Driving the No. 14 SEI Motorsports/Planting Seeds CC SRF, Stripling beat Robert Reed to the line by a mere 0.164-second.For further information on the Majors from Watkins Glen International, including entry lists, schedules and session results, visit
