Le Mans: Ginetta, Wolf to enter LMP2 chassis bids, Strakka Dome opts out

Ginetta Cars Chairman Lawrence Tomlinson today confirmed exclusively to DSC that the Yorkshire-based company will submit an expression of interest in being selected as one of the planned four licensed chassis manufacturers for LMP2 from 2017 through to 2020.

“We’ll be putting in an expression of interest,” said Tomlinson as the factory Team LNT Ginetta Nissans were fettled ahead of tomorrow’s Le Mans 24 Hours Test Day.

“We have great experience producing not only Ginetta GT race cars but now our new LMP3 cars in large numbers and against tight deadlines. LMP2 looks like a sensible step forward for us in the sports car market.”

Ginetta is believed to have an LMP2 coupe in an advanced stage of design. Wolf, meanwhile is set to submit a dossier confirming its interest in having the Italian based marque’s Tornado LMP2 coupe concept considered too.

“We have been in close contact with the ACO on their proposals and have a large dossier ready to go.”

DSC saw the plans for the proposed Wolf LMP2 in March with wind tunnel model testing already having been undertaken.

Wolf’s bid will include their expertise in serial prototype production with a long line of successful CN-type cars.

Rather less good news is that Strakka Racing has decided not to submit a Stage 1 proposal.

“Having examined the provisions of the proposed process for selection we have decided not to bid,” said Strakka Racing team principal Dan Walmsley.

With the remaining assets of Dome having been acquired by Toyota, it seems that the S103 is set to become the last of the line after its current racing programs are complete.
