WTCC: Rydell set for return in Russia

World Touring Car Championship race winner Rickard Rydell is set to return to the series in Russia next month after missing the last three rounds through illness.

The Swedish driver was diagnosed with thyroiditis and unable to take part in the Moroccan, Hungarian and German races. As his recovery continues, the Honda Racing team Sweden driver is poised to return to race action, and completed a successful two-day test at Mantorp Park in Sweden earlier this week.

Rydell finished 10th and ninth in Argentina on his WTCC return in March.

"Indications from the two-day test were largely positive, and Rydell continues to make significant rehabilitation progress," a team statement read. "Honda Racing team Sweden and Rickard Rydell are now looking forward to returning to the paddock for the forthcoming WTCC race in Russia."
