NASCAR: Kyle Busch set to return for All-Star Race

Kyle Busch will return to NASCAR racing in this weekend's All-Star Race at Charlotte, three months after his leg-breaking Daytona crash. Busch announced his comeback in the annual non-championship invitation race by

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver was sidelined with a compound fracture to his lower right leg and a fractured left foot following an accident in the Nationwide Series race the day before the Sprint Cup-opening Daytona 500. He required two operations on the injuries and has not raced since.

A variety of drivers have occupied Busch's #18 JGR Toyota during his absence. Regan Smith stood in for the Daytona race and Atlanta, before David Ragan moved across from Front Row Motorsports as a longer-term substitute.

Ragan then secured a season-long deal to stand in for the unwell Brian Vickers at Michael Waltrip Racing, prompting JGR to give its 18-year-old protege Erik Jones his first full Cup race at Kansas last weekend. Jones had previously made his debut in an unusual mid-race call-up when Denny Hamlin suffered neck pain at Bristol.

Busch will get dispensation to qualify for NASCAR's Chase for the Championship if he wins a race before the September cut-off, despite missing 11 rounds while injured. Drivers must normally contest the full season to be eligible for the Chase.
