SCCA: Rain dampens Majors Tour at VIR
Low-level rain clouds hung over VIRginia International Raceway on Sunday for Round 10 of the Southeastern Conference, and Round Two of the Northeastern Conference. The weather conditions teetered between wet and dry for most of the day, but the skied eventually opened halfway through Sunday's races.
Eight, 16-lap feature races were on the docket for Sunday, as winners in 28 Runoffs-eligible classes were crowned at the 3.27-mile, 17-turn circuit. While all races completed the required seven laps to be counted as official, conditions proved to be difficult for all who braved them during the afternoon. The first four classes ran rain-free, as the highlight of these contests was Spec Racer Ford and Spec Racer Ford Gen3. Kerry Jacobsen took home the win in the latest generation of SRF by 0.074-second, while Denny Stripling took the win by 0.133-second.The rain started to fall, in earnest, just as the big-bore cars headed out to start their feature race. Following a full-course yellow, and the expiration of John Heinricy's engine while behind the pace car, Simon Gregg survived to claim the overall winKeyvan Soori proved to be the rain master in Formula Atlantic. He was the only driver to break the two-minute barrier in the wet. He also took the class, and overall, victory in Group Seven.Additional information, including interviews with the winning drivers and results, on the VIR Majors can be found at SCCA.com/VIRMajors.Like SCCA on Facebook at Facebook.com/SCCAOfficial and follow the Club on Twitter @SCCAOfficial.ALTON, Va. - Provisional race winners for Sunday's Southeastern Conference Majors Tour Round 10 and Northeastern Conference Majors Tour Round Two at VIRginia International Raceway.
