Al Carter Sebring Pre-Race Report

A month and a half following his GTD class victory in the 2015 Rolex 24 At Daytona, Al Carter is still trying to grasp the fact that he won North America’s biggest endurance race. Winning the Rolex 24 At Daytona was a dream come true for Carter. Seven years after he started his motorsports career racing Skip Barber Series, the racer from Wilmington, Delaware became a local celebrity overnight when the Delaware News Journal elected to publish his picture, holding his Rolex 24 trophy, on the cover of the Tuesday edition.Since that day, Carter has not stopped smiling and answering questions from his friends, fans and media, who have been writing multiple stories about this cancer survivor whose dedication, efforts and determination took him where he is today. This week marks the second round of the 2015 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship as well as the second round of the Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup. Al Carter currently leads the GTD class in both competitions.Like Daytona, Saturday’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh From Florida is an iconic race that racers all around the world want to add to their resumes. Thanks to his winning TI Automotive/ViperExchange.com Riley Motorsports team, Carter will get a chance to make history on Saturday. He will co-drive the No. 93 TI Automotive /ViperExchange / B+ Foundation / BarVision / Sideskinz /Stinkerz Riley Motorsports SRT Viper GT3-R with Marc Goossens, Ben Keating and Cameron Lawrence. Keating and Lawrence shared and won Daytona with Carter last January. Goossens, nicknamed “The Goose”, is one of the most talented endurance racers on the planet and will definitely bring all his expertise and talent to help his teammates win the legendary 12-hour race next Saturday.“It's hard not to head to Sebring with a little extra bounce in our step coming off our success at Daytona and getting our TI Automotive Viper into Gatorade Victory Lane at the Rolex 24,” Carter said.  “But this week we will start business as usual and do what we did at the last race: focus on our consistency, fast driver changes and pitstops; and we will aim for a solid podium finish. “The Goose” will be paired with Cameron and me in the No. 93 at Sebring. Like most drivers, I love/hate Sebring. I love it for its character, and I hate it for its toughness, but I think we can continue to hustle this TI Automotive, Viper Exchange, B+ Dodge Viper around for 12 hours and keep our points lead in the 2015 Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup.”The last Dodge Viper’s win at Sebring was in 2000 when Olivier Beretta / Karl Wendlinger and Dominique Dupuy took the No. 91 Dodge Viper GTS-R GTS to the winner’s circle. That year, the Viper team finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd in class.Carter’s 2015 Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh From Florida’s effort  will be supported by a great group of partners including BarVision, SidesKinz, CarryOn and The B+ (Be Positive) Foundation, one of the country’s largest providers of financial assistance to families of kids with cancer.Practice for the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring starts on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. EDT. GTD qualifying is set for Friday, March 20 at 4:20 p.m. EDT. The start of the 63rd Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida is set for Saturday, March 21 at 10:40 a.m. EDT.Coverage will alternate between FOX Sports 1, FOX Sports 2 and IMSA.com.
