F3 rookie Beer concussed in Imola crash

Formula 3 European Championship rookie Nicolas Beer suffered concussion in a big testing crash at Imola on Wednesday. The Dane, driving a EuroInternational Dallara-Mercedes, went off at the fast Piratella left-hander at the top of the hill after the Tosa hairpin.

He was taken to the circuit medical center and released in the evening, and is flying home on Thursday for hospital checks in Denmark.

Team boss Antonio Ferrari said that the car should be repaired by Friday, in plenty of time for the first official pre-season F3 test at Valencia next week.

"We wait the results [of the hospital examination] before confirming his participation in the Valencia test," Ferrari added.

EuroInternational has been sharing the Imola track with Van Amersfoort Racing as several of the leading F3 teams elect to use some of their designated number of "joker" days.

Among these are Prema Powerteam, which has taken the past four European F3 champions to title success and is in action at Mugello, Mucke Motorsport, which is running at Nogaro, and Signature, which has chosen to test at Dijon.
