WEC: Sarrazin carries out first ORECA test

The new ORECA LMP2 coupe was given the seal of approval by Toyota factory driver Stephane Sarrazin after its maiden run yesterday.

Sarrazin, who has links with ORECA stretching back to the early 2000s, put the Nissan-powered 05 P2 through its paces at Paul Ricard and labelled the new coupe a "solid car" that was "very agile in the tight sections".

"I very quickly felt comfortable at the wheel," he said. "The car has a consistent behavior – it's nice for a driver to have a car that is so reactive."

ORECA technical director David Floury described the shakedown test for the 05 coupe as "a positive one".

"We went through the entire programme and the session was enriching," he said. "There are always some details here and there to sort out, but what we've witnessed throughout this first shakedown bodes well."

Testing of the first ORECA 05, which is to be raced in the World Endurance Championship by the KCMG squad, is continuing today and tomorrow at Ricard.
