Karlsson switches to VW for World RX

Swedish driver Ramona Karlsson plans to race a Volkswagen Scirocco Supercar in the five-round European Rallycross Championship this season, and at her home World Rallycross Championship event at Holjes.

Karlsson recently acquired the Scirocco, originally built by Kristoffersson Motorsport and used by Johan Kristoffersson and Ole Kristian Veiby over the previous two seasons.

"I tested the car in Holjes last autumn, and it didn't take long until I decided that I really wanted it," said Karlsson. "It feels fantastic that this important part of my team is sorted.

"Now I will continue to work on the budget for the running costs. Things are moving forwards."

The former rally driver moved to rallycross last year, driving an Eklund Motorsport Saab 93 before standing in for Jacques Villeneuve in the Albatec Racing Peugeot squad for the German round.

Last week, Karlsson launched a crowdfunding campaign in a bid to secure the budget to run her own Supercar team, which has received an encouraging response from fans so far.

"The response to my crowdfunding has been very positive, and it feels so great to see how people are supporting me every day support me. It's really touching and valuable," said Karlsson. "I'm not there yet and it's an important part of the budget that is still missing, but I'm equipped with a positive mindset, and if you want something strongly enough, you are going to get there."
