F1: Lotus's 2015 car makes track debut
Lotus's 2015 Formula 1 car finally appeared in public for the first time in pre-season testing at Jerez on Monday.
The new Mercedes-powered E23 only left the team's Enstone, UK factory on Sunday afternoon, following a decision to build the car up as late as possible. The team had anticipated that it might not have been able to join testing properly until Tuesday, but Pastor Maldonado completed the first installation lap with the new car just over an hour into Monday's running.
Lotus endured a disappointing 2014 campaign that resulted in it ending its long-time partnership with engine supplier Renault. Its switch to Mercedes power for this season has left it upbeat that it can get back challenging for podium finishes.
Lotus CEO Matthew Carter told AUTOSPORT last week: "We are hoping that we can challenge and get around where Williams are. I don't want to be too optimistic, because it is important to be realistic, but finishing third or fourth in the constructors' championship is really our target."
