IndyCar: Chaves expected to be confirmed at Herta
2014 Indy Lights champion Gabby Chaves is expected to be announced as Bryan Herta Autosport's full-time driver within the next week. RACER has learned the young Colombian-American, who tested for the team during the off-season, earned the nod over Italian GP2 ace Luca Filippi and will pilot the Honda-powered No. 98 when the season begins on March 8 in Brazil.
A call to the team was not immediately returned.
Chaves replaces Jack Hawksworth, who departed for A.J. Foyt Racing after one season with BHA, and will have open-wheel veteran Jay Howard as his teammate for the Indy 500.
Filippi, who impressed with BHA and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing during brief stints in 2013 and 2014, is believed to be on the short list at Carpenter Fisher Hartman Racing to pilot Carpenter's No. 20 Chevy on road and street courses.
