GP2: Marciello moves to Trident for 2015
Ferrari junior driver Raffaele Marciello will switch from Racing Engineering to Trident Motorsport in GP2 this season. The Italian, who finished eighth in the championship as a rookie last year, is already confirmed as Sauber's test and reserve driver in Formula 1 for 2015.
"I am absolutely delighted with the agreement reached with Trident," said the 20-year-old. "I have been able to feel their trust and interest straight away and I really appreciated their attention towards me and my driving style.
"I know there is a lot of work to do but, thanks to the support of Ferrari, I think we have what it takes to succeed."
Team principal Maurizio Salvadori said that it was particularly special to sign a top Italian talent.
"By reaching this agreement I can say I fulfilled one of the dreams I have been chasing for a long time," said Salvadori. "At the same time, I understand that the expectations on 'Lello' for 2015 are very high, but I am sure that we are in condition to deliver a winning car. We will do our utmost in order to provide our contribution to his career, as he has the chance to finally bring the Italian banner back to Formula 1."
Trident finished sixth in the GP2 teams' standings in 2014, with lead driver Johnny Cecotto Jr. taking two wins on his way to fifth in the drivers' championship.
