WEC: ByKolles plans to enter revised LMP1
The renamed ByKolles team, which formerly ran under the Lotus LMP banner, has revealed plans to field a revised version of its LMP1 contender in this year's World Endurance Championship.
The German group, whose agreement with Lotus to use its name has come to an end, is working on a major update of the CLM P1/01 that made its debut at last September's COTA WEC round and has made an application for one full-season entry in the series.
Team co-owner Colin Kolles revealed that the team could expand to two cars after the Le Mans 24 Hours in June. The 2015-spec CLM will have new front and rear suspension, revised aerodynamics, a new gearbox and a significant weight reduction.
Director of operations Boris Bermes said: "We learnt a lot last year and we faced many challenges. We made very good progress against the odds, but we were aware that significant improvements needed to be made for the 2015 season. The team has worked hard since the end of least season to produce, what I believe, to be a highly competitive car."
The revised car will be unveiled ahead of the official WEC test at Paul Ricard at the end of March. Drivers will be announced in the next couple of weeks, Kolles explained.
The team has also announced a co-operation with Austrian sports sponsorship company Yellowings, which will, said Kolles, "enable companies with smaller budgets or new start-ups to become involved in the exciting world of motorsport."
