Hixon wins Skip Barber Winter Series MAZDASPEED Challenge
Bryan Hixon clinched first place of the 2014-'15 MAZDASPEED Challenge after a dominant performance in rounds 5 and 6 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Hixon will be awarded his choice of a free race weekend at a future MAZDASPEED Pro Challenge event or $10,000 Skip Barber Racing School credits.
Hixon's season was nothing short of dominant as he managed to never miss a podium spot and earned five first place wins. He ended the season with a total of 175 points. Hixon clinched the season at Homestead-Miami Speedway with two hard fought victories in the MX-5 Group of the 2014-2015 Skip Barber Winter Series.
Rookie Racer Pablo Carballedo claimed Second place of the MAZDASPEED Challenge after locking in two podium finishes at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Carballedo fought Hixon in the point standings throughout the season, trailing by only a few points after a great race weekend for both racers at Sebring International Raceway back in December. Although Hixon's lead was ultimately too much for Carballedo, we expect the rookie racer to be a key player to watch in future iterations of the MAZDASPEED Challenge.
Carballedo's debut perfromances also earned him the Skip Barber Rookie of the Year award. Carballedo will receive an additional $3,000 Skip Barber Racing School credits in addition to his prize of $7,000 for finishing the season in second place.
Grand Master Felix Borodaty secured the third place spot for the season after commendable performances in all rounds of the series. Borodaty also entered the final rounds of the MAZDASPEED Challenge in third place after demonstrating solid racing technique at Sebring International Raceway. Borodaty finished the season with 144 points and earned the third place podium. Borodaty will be awarded $5,000 Skip Barber Racing School Credits.
Master racer and rookie Dan Williams received the season's Most Improved award for his outstanding progress made on and off the race track. Williams will receive a prize of $3,000 Skip barber Racing School credits for use in future Skip Barber racing events. Williams finished the season in fifth place with a total of 139 points.
