Former NASCAR driver Tyler Walker pleads guilty after police chase
Former NASCAR driver Tyler Walker pleaded guilty on Tuesday to multiple charges following a high-speed police chase through multiple states.
Walker appeared in a Utah court to answer charges stemming from an incident in January of 2013, which began when a Nevada highway patrolman clocked the 35-year-old driving at 150mph.
According to reports, Walker evaded several blockades and crossed into Utah and then Arizona before finally being apprehended. He entered his plea in response to the felony counts of failing to stop for an officer and possession of a controlled substance, as well as three misdemeanor charges relating to DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Speaking during the hearing, Walker apologised to those who had been on the road at the time of the chase, and said that he is working to address his drug problems to ensure that it does not happen again. He will be sentenced in February.
Walker competed in 28 NASCAR-sanctioned events during his career, with a best result of ninth in the Truck Series race at Martinsville in 2007. He was suspended indefinitely by the series that same year for violating its substance abuse policy.
