IMSA: Krohn Racing tests new Ligier JS P2

Krohn Racing will debut a new Judd-powered Ligier JS P2 Prototype in the Rolex 24 At Daytona on Jan. 25-26, 2015, and the team recently tested it for the first time at Portugal’s Estoril circuit.

Longtime co-drivers Tracy Krohn and Nic Jonsson both got seat time in the new car during the Nov. 18-20 test. An additional test is scheduled for this Thursday and Friday at Circuit of The Americas, near the team’s base in Houston. Its first public outing will be the Roar Before the 24 at Daytona on Jan. 9-11.

This is the first Ligier JS P2 to utilize a Judd powerplant, which raced with Nissan and Honda engines in the Onroak Automotive-developed car earlier this year.

“We had a very productive shakedown at Estoril with the Ligier-Judd,” Krohn said. “Everything worked well straight out of the box and we were able to accumulate lots of data to analyze before our next test. The car is great to drive, especially in the wet conditions that we found at Estoril. It was great to see the car in the flesh and get a feel for the Ligier-Judd.

“We covered quite a lot of mileage given the weather. I am itching to get back into the car now on some more familiar territory. Everyone did a solid job of pulling together and making sure we got the car in good time and performed the checks and processes needed when fitting a chassis and engine package together for the first time.”

Krohn expects to announce the team’s full 2015 schedule following the Texas test. The team expects to open the year with back-to-back TUDOR Championship rounds at Daytona and the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh From Florida on March 21.

Selected FIA World Endurance Championship and European Le Mans Series events – including the 24 Hours of Le Mans – also are anticipated.
