WEC: Webber remains in hospital for checks
accident near the end of the World Endurance Championship finale
at Interlagos.Porsche driver Webber and Matteo Cressoni, whose AF Corse-run Ferrari was involved in the incident, were described as being in a satisfactory condition by FIA medical delegate Dr Alain Chantegret.
Porsche LMP1 boss Fritz Enzinger was more forthcoming on Webber's condition.
"Mark is OK, but he has had to go to hospital for further checks," he told AUTOSPORT. "We have spoken to him and said that people can go and see him, so Timo [Bernhard] and Brendon [Hartley, Webber's teammates] have gone to the hospital."
Enzinger said it was unclear whether Webber would be kept in the Bandeirantes hospital for further investigation.
Porsche has yet to ascertain the reasons for the accident, which happened at the fast Turn 14 left-hander that leads onto the start-finish straight. Porsche LMP1 technical director Alex Hitzinger said: "We don't know yet what happened because there is not much footage of the accident. We cannot say anything until we analyze the car and the data."
Cressoni, who was sharing the AF Corse-run 8Star Ferrari with Gianluca Roda and Paolo Ruberti, is reported to have told his team that he was hit by the Porsche only after Webber had lost control.
