Verstappen: No regrets over Macau

Max Verstappen says he left the Macau Formula 3 Grand Prix with no regrets, despite his crash in the qualifying race costing him a shot at victory.

An impressive recovery from the back of the grid to finish seventh, with the fastest lap, showed that the Toro Rosso-bound Dutchman had the pace to fight for the win. But when asked if that sensational charge through the field meant it was even more frustrating what happened on Saturday, Verstappen said: "I don't look back at what happened anymore. These things happen and, for my first year in Macau, I think I did a good job.

"We did the fastest lap and, if I didn't make the mistake [on Saturday], then for sure we had the chance to win."

Verstappen's recovery drive was all the more impressive after it emerged that he had been hampered by damage to his floor. The van Amersfoort driver has been hit from behind as he stopped on track to avoid getting caught in the spectacular first lap pile-up at San Francisco Bend.

"I was waiting with all the crashed cars but then I got hit from behind," he said. "My car was pretty damaged.

"Even in the race, there was still some damage to the floor. This was the best way we could do it – to finish off with the fastest lap was very good."
