Ferrari protege Fuoco to test GP3

Ferrari protege Antonio Fuoco has been lined up for a possible move to the GP3 Series in 2015.

The 18-year-old Italian, who won two races in this season's Formula 3 European Championship with Prema Powerteam, will test for three different teams in the Abu Dhabi test that takes place after this year's GP3 finale. Fuoco will run with ART Grand Prix, Carlin and Koiranen GP.

A move to GP3 would split Fuoco from fellow Ferrari Driver Academy member Lance Stroll - the reigning Italian Formula 4 champion is likely to graduate to F3 next year with Prema.

"GP2 is very good preparation for Formula 1, and it could be good for him to race in GP3 to get used to the Pirelli tires," FDA chief Luca Baldisserri explained.

Baldisserri added that a decision would only be made on whether to make the switch after Fuoco has tried the GP3 cars. He also played down speculation that Fuoco, who dominated the 2013 Formula Renault ALPS season, would be dropped from the FDA program, saying that a decision would be made in December but that it was probable he would remain.
