Solomon in frame for European F3

Hong Kong teenager Matt Solomon is in contention for a move to the Formula 3 European Championship for 2015 after strong early tests.

The 18-year-old, who finished runner-up in this year's Formula Masters China series, tested a Double R Racing Dallara-Mercedes (pictured above with Felipe Guimaraes) at Pembrey and Silverstone.

Solomon's tests came initially at the behest of Daimler Asia.

Double R boss Anthony Hieatt said he was quickly down to competitive times at Pembrey, and then compared well at Silverstone against drivers from Carlin, Fortec and T-Sport - most were predominantly testing for the Macau Grand Prix but some new contenders were given tryouts.

"He was properly, really good and loved the F3 car," said Hieatt.

"Every time he went out he got quicker and quicker, and he was bang on it against everybody."
