Spa circuit seeks to stop Infiniti from use of "Eau Rouge" name

Nissan moved last month to establish international trademarks of the brand name "Eau Rouge" for the 560hp special edition of its Infiniti Q50 model, shown above with Infiniti Global Brand Ambassador Sebastian Vettel, but the source of the name – the Spa-Francorchamps race circuit – is fighting back.

Pierre-Alain Thibaut, director of the circuit that hosts the Belgian Grand Prix, told the

news agency that the track will challenge Nissan's application for a trademark of what is arguably the most famous corner in Formula 1.

“It’s like they want to steal the brand from the circuit,” Thibaut told Bloomberg. “We consider it exactly the opposite of fair play.”

Infiniti plans a demonstration of its Q50 Eau Rouge in Austin, Texas on Wednesday, Oct. 29, ahead of the U.S. Grand Prix at Austin's Circuit of The Americas. Red Bull Racing drivers Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo will drive Vettel's 2011 F1 car and the 560-horsepower Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge prototype up and down Congress Avenue, beginning at 12 p.m. CDT.

Kicking off the annual United States Grand Prix™ race weekend, the event starts at 12:00 p.m. CDT on the corner of Congress Avenue and 7th Street at the foot of the iconic Texas Capitol building. An introduction to the drivers will then be followed by high-speed runs in the F1 car and Q50 Eau Rouge.

Activities will also include a drivers' parade where spectators get a chance to see the drivers up close. A few lucky fans will also be selected from the crowd to experience a ride in the Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge prototype driven by Vettel and Ricciardo.
