IndyCar: Chevy plays down aero kit spy shots
Chevrolet says that a representative version of its 2015 IndyCar aero kit will not be unveiled until the homologation process is completed, despite spy shots of an early iteration appearing.
An onlooker managed to capture a handful of long-distance images of Chevrolet track-testing a version of its aero kit at Circuit of The Americas
on Tuesday. The shots, which quickly circulated through the internet, represent the first time that images of aero kits from either of IndyCar's manufacturers have made it into the public arena.Chris Berube, Chevrolet Racing Program Manager for IndyCar, did not address the images directly, but he reiterated that the design is still in development.
"We are very excited about the first ever Chevrolet aero kit and look forward to unveiling it to the fans in unique ways early next year once the final homologation is completed," he said. "Prior to that we are focused on the final development phase where we transition to track testing with the goal of validating the performance and reliability of the new designs.
"The Chevrolet aero kit represents a significant investment of resources in a competitive arena, and as such requires discretion to maintain any unique advantage our designs may contain. We recognize the enthusiasm from the fans in wanting to see and know the details now, but the time to unveil will be here before you know it."
