GP2: Marciello penalized for Palmer clash

Ferrari protege Raffaele Marciello will take a five-place grid penalty for the next GP2 race in Abu Dhabi after a clash with champion Jolyon Palmer in Russia on Sunday.

Racing Engineering driver Marciello and Palmer made contact at Turn 2 on the opening lap of the Sochi sprint race, spinning Palmer's DAMS car to the back of the field.

Marciello's incident-packed race continued with a spin and then a terminal crash caused by a puncture picked up while dicing with Artem Markelov. The stewards judged him at fault for the collision with Palmer and awarded a five-place demotion for the feature race in Abu Dhabi next month.

Palmer was able to recover to 10th.

ART driver Takuya Izawa was also given a post-race penalty, with 20 seconds added to his race time as a punishment for pitlane speeding. That drops him from 21st to 22nd.
