Rebel Rock Racing Road Atlanta Pre-Race Report

Rebel Rock Racing is heading to Road Atlanta for the last race of the 2014 Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge scheduled on Friday afternoon. Rebel Rock Racing will take their four cars to Georgia and team owner, Jim Jonsin, and his eight drivers are all looking to run at the front of the pack in their respective class.

Rebel Rock Racing's cars had a tough time in difficult dry-to-wet conditions at COTA and the results did not reflect the true speed of the Rebel Rock cars. Reinforcing the car's strong podium finish at VIR, the 08, co-driven by Martin Barkey and Kyle Marcelli, proved it was fast enough to win at COTA by passing the race leaders to regain one of the laps lost to a brake problem earlier in the race. Unfortunately, the No. 7 997 of Al Carter and Andrew Palmer was forced to retire with a very rare fuel injector problem. With Palmer at the wheel, the car broke down very early in the race. Both Rebel Rock Racing ST Caymans (the 87 of Jim Jonsin and Gary Browne and the 88 of Corey Fergus and Tom Dyer) were plagued with down-on-power engines forcing the team to analyze their problem between the two races of COTA and Road Atlanta to make sure the Rebel Rock ST cars return to a competitive state.Brett Sandberg, who is returning to the team after one race break, will race the No. 7 CarryOn/B+ Foundation/Eagle Tech Systems/Sideskinz/Stinkerz Porsche with Al Carter. Both drivers love Road Atlanta and they are excited by their chances of scoring a podium finish on Friday.Martin Barkey and Kyle Marcelli will co-drive the No. 08 MBRP Inc. Performance Exhaust/K&N/The Sports Lab/Vitargo/The Garage/Jackson Transportation Systems/GO PUCK/All Ontario Recycling Porsche. Both drivers raced well at COTA despite their problems in the race and like the No. 7 car, should be a real winning contender on Friday at Road Atlanta.Rebel Rock Racing has a new driver, David Block, for the No. 87 Arehucas Rum/Ingersoll Rand/Planet Pit/Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oils/GIAC Porsche Cayman ST. The No. 87 will be co-driven by David Block and by 2014 Indianapolis CTSCC ST race winner, Corey Lewis. David Block is a Midwest native who currently resides in the Cleveland, Ohio. Block returned to motorsports in 2014 and competed in a variety of racing activities over the past three seasons with special emphasis on the endurance races. This season, David raced with TRG-AMR in all rounds of the 2014 Tequila Patrón North American Endurance Cup, part of the 2014 TUDOR Championship. He co-drives the 007 Aston Martin with Al Carter and James Davison. The Atlanta race will mark Block's first 2014 CTSCC race.Tom Dyer and Corey Fergus will compete in the No. 88 Ingersoll Rand/Oakley/Planetpit.com/Fatburger Crenshaw/Joe Gibbs Driven Racing Oils/Western Star/Monticello Motor Club /Alliance Truck Parts. For their last race of 2014, the duo should be a podium contender on Friday.During the last race at COTA, Jim Jonsin, Al Carter and Martin Barkey ran their own fund raising Challenge. Before the race, they announced that they will donate $100 per position gained in the race. Martin Barkey and Kyle Marcelli qualified 20th and finished 15th and Jim Jonsin and Gary Browne qualified 29th and finished 23rd. $1,100 was raised during this challenge to benefit The B+ Foundation. This program will continue at Road Atlanta for the 08 and 7 cars.Again, during the last race, Al Carter's No. 7 B+ Foundation CarryOn.com Porsche had a special hood design featuring a large B+ gold ribbon, symbol for childhood cancer worldwide. Over the two days of the event more than 100 fans donated money to The B+ Foundation to get the right to sign their name on the race car. Even IMSA President and COO, Scott Atherton, signed it during the fan walk. The hood was then sold to an Austin fan for $3,000.On Friday night, after the CTSCC race, Rebel Rock Racing team owner, Jim Jonsin, and Al Carter invited a large group of CTSCC team members and fans to the Old School Bar & Grill downtown Austin. Raffle tickets were sold to benefit The B+ Foundation and $750 was raised during the evening!Al Carter's new sponsor and Rebel Rock Racing travel partner CarryOn was also involved in this special fund raising program. Until October 31 CarryOn and Al Carter will donate $1 to The B+ Foundation for each new fan that signs up using the URL
