F1: Magnussen says he's not focusing on 2015 uncertainty

Kevin Magnussen says he really wants to continue driving for the McLaren Formula 1 team next season, but cannot waste time worrying about ongoing uncertainty over his future.

McLaren remains coy on which drivers will line up in its cars when Honda returns to F1 as McLaren's works engine partner next season. Although McLaren has been courting Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel, who both have contracts with their current teams for 2015 – potentially putting the futures of Magnussen and current McLaren teammate Jenson Button in doubt – Magnussen says all he can do is focus on delivering in this year's car.

When asked about progress on a deal for next year, Magnussen joked: "I haven't been fired yet!"

"I think McLaren has a great future ahead of it and a lot of positive things are in place," the Dane added. I really want to be a part of that future.

"All I can do is do my best. Everyone in this team is in the same position. You have to do your best and you have to deliver. That's what F1 is about. I'm not thinking about it in a negative way; I'm glad to be here."

Magnussen has outqualified Button for the last three consecutive races and says he is still getting better as the campaign wears on.

"You won't stop learning as long as you're in Formula 1," Magnussen said. "F1 is evolving all the time and you're learning all the time because things change all the time. That's why Formula 1 is what it is.

"I'm sure if you ask Jenson if he's learned everything he can he will say no. Obviously I'm a rookie, and there's been a huge amount of learning early on in the season.

"I do feel I've learned a lot, but I don't feel I've started to reach a point where I've slowed down in my learning. There's a huge amount to learn still – nothing new just more about tire wear, tire management, fuel management, setup changes – you learn as you get better at it."
