Decision on Stewart charges due next week
Tony Stewart will know next week whether he is to face charges relating to the death of fellow driver Kevin Ward Jr. in a sprint car accident last month.
The Ontario County Office of Sherriff announced on Thursday that it had completed a "thorough investigation" into the accident, which has now been submitted to the District Attorney's office for further review.
"The District Attorney's Office, which has been meeting throughout the investigative process with members of the sheriff's office, will make a statement late next week advising what action will be taken regarding the investigation," said a statement from the sheriff's office.
The investigation includes forensic video enhancement recently received from the New York State Police laboratory.
Ward was killed on Aug. 9 at Canandaigua Motorsports Park in New York when he was stuck by Stewart's car while approaching it on foot during a caution period.
Stewart sat out the next three NASCAR Sprint Cup races before returning at Atlanta two weeks ago.
