Indy Lights: Rahal Letterman Lanigan looking at rejoining series

Former Atlantic Championship and Indy Lights entrant Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing has joined the list of Verizon IndyCar Series teams considering an expansion into the new-look Lights series in 2015.

As RACER

revealed on Monday, A.J. Foyt Racing has an interest

in fielding a 4-cylinder turbocharged Dallara IL15 next season, and they could be joined by RLL according to Bobby Rahal.

"It's a good time to get in this with a new car," Rahal (LEFT) told RACER. "We have interest from a few drivers with funding to run them. We've been down this road before running Mike Borkowski in Indy Lights, we ran Danica [Patrick] in Atlantics and a number of other drivers, so this wouldn't be something new for our team – we've been big supporters of the open-wheel training series.

"If we do something we want to make sure we do it correctly, and there's value in joining the [Lights] series. They need more cars and need IndyCar teams to support the series while it's undergoing a reboot, for sure. We're looking hard into it and it makes sense for us to be involved."

RLL expects to have a decision on whether it will enter the Indy Lights series within the next two months.

"We'd like to have a decision ASAP because there's a lot of testing available through the end of the year," added Rahal. "We'd like to get going by September 1 to take advantage of that, but that's probably wishful thinking. Having a decision by September 15 to October 1 is more realistic, and if we do it, that would still give us plenty of time to get everything together and start testing."
