F1: Bianchi tops Silverstone test for Ferrari

Jules Bianchi topped the final day of Formula 1 testing at Silverstone on his first experience of the Ferrari F14 T. The Frenchman, a Ferrari junior driver, was drafted in by Ferrari to fill in for Kimi Raikkonen following the Finn's heavy crash on the opening lap of the British Grand Prix.

Bianchi, who ran for Marussia yesterday, jumped to the top of the times with around an hour to go, outpacing Scuderia Toro Rosso driver Daniil Kvyat by just under three tenths of a second.

Kevin Magnussen was third fastest, just half a tenth behind Kvyat, with Sauber reserve driver Giedo van der Garde setting the fourth best time before going off and bringing the test to a premature end with 20 minutes remaining because of the need to repair the barriers.

Lewis Hamilton was fifth fastest after a delay earlier in the day when he went off at Stowe, also causing the session to be red-flagged. Although there was no significant damage, according to the team, he did not return to the track for several hours.

Valtteri Bottas was sixth fastest for Williams ahead of Marussia driver Max Chilton, who triggered a red flag in the morning when he ground to a halt shortly after rolling out of the garage. Force India third driver Daniel Juncadella was eighth fastest ahead of Sebastian Vettel's Red Bull.

Charles Pic, who completed 14 laps in the morning using Pirelli's experimental 18-inch tyres, was 10th fastest and is understood to have experimented with running without the FRIC suspension system, which is set to be banned.

GP2 racer Julian Leal, making his F1 test debut for Caterham, was slowest as he attempted to complete sufficient mileage for his Superlicense. As he lost time in the morning when his car ground to a halt after just two laps, the team did not field Rio Haryanto in the afternoon as planned.
