Rally GB confirms 2014 route

The route for this year's Rally GB has been revealed and includes significant changes as the organisers look to build on a positive 2013 event.

Missing are the Great Orme and Thursday night stages,

as predicted by AUTOSPORT

last week, but in their place comes a more compact route with considerably more spectating opportunities than last season.

After a ceremonial start at the Eirias Park stadium in Colwyn Bay on Thursday, November 13, the main action gets underway the following morning.

All the mid-Wales action is now packed into one day, offering fans a much wider choice, easing congestion and lessening the strain on forest car parks.

Saturday and Sunday run through North Wales with the Clocaenog complex featuring heavily on both days.

The event's powerstage moves to Brenig (on the east side of Clocaenog), a new stage that finishes on the shores of Llyn Brenig.

Managing director of the November 13-16 event Ben Taylor said: "It is fair to say that we were caught out last year by the sheer number of people wanting to get into the stages; we haven't had that problem for many years.

"My message to everyone is that we have learned the lessons, we will have robust plans in place, and, by going ticket-only on the RallyFest stages, we will have a better control on the numbers."

Chirk Castle and Kinmel Park return as RallyFest stages on Saturday and Sunday respectively, with the finish remaining in Llandudno.

The opportunity to see the cars competing on the Great Orme was lost when the field used for car parking on the headland stage became unavailable.

Ticketing for Rally GB will be announced soon - currently only the 'World Rally Pass' is available, which gives access to all stages for 99 for adults and 1 for children.
