WRC: Kubica says he'll stick with new approach
Robert Kubica will again adopt an ultra-cautious approach when the World Rally Championship resumes in Sardinia this weekend.
The World Rally Car rookie changed his style for the last round in Argentina following a spate of accidents, and managed to make it to the finish without incident for the first time since stepping up from WRC2 at the end of 2013.
Kubica therefore plans to tread extremely carefully again in Italy, focusing on finishing rather than outright pace.
"Like all of the gravel events in the WRC, this is a difficult rally so in that respect my approach won't be too different from the previous outing in Argentina," he said. "Of course, Sardinia is a rally that I got to know a bit in WRC2 last year, but my goal will stay the same. I will just try to maximize my chances of finishing the rally, which means minimising any mistakes.
"All of the stages are very technical and the surface is sandy so it is quite slippery out there. The stages are fast – very fast in places – but it is also extremely narrow so you have to drive very precisely and try to get as much speed through the corner while keeping the line."
Kubica finished sixth in Argentina last month to score his first points since joining M-Sport for 2014.
