WRC: Ogier calls for improved TV coverage
World Rally champion Sebastien Ogier has urged the WRC promoter to improve its television coverage of the series. The Frenchman said he remained disappointed at both the pictures produced by the sport's promoter and the level of WRC coverage around the world.
"I think there is a good step to do in producing what we do," said Ogier. "When I see the footage being shown, I know we have better stuff than what we are able to see."
The sport's stakeholders are understood to be bringing increased pressure on WRC Promoter to improve the quality of programming on offer from the 13 rounds of the championship.
One insider said: "What's on offer really hasn't changed much in the last 10 years. I think he (Ogier) has a point in some regard – the pictures don't always reflect the action and the story doesn't do the drama of the sport justice."
Asked about coverage of his title defense in his homeland, Ogier said: "It's one channel and that's pay TV. I think it's almost the same everywhere now."
