McLaren completes 2014 crash tests

McLaren looks set to make it to the first Formula 1 test at Jerez after its new car passed all the mandatory crash tests.

The squad was facing a race against time with its MP4-29 last week, when it was still to get through the full set of crash tests, amid speculation that it had failed at least one.

F1 cars must pass all the tests before they can start running in testing under the current regulations. Previously they only had to pass in time for the opening grand prix.

On Tuesday, McLaren confirmed all the tests have now been passed, clearing the way for the new Mercedes-powered car to begin running at Jerez when the action commences on Jan. 28. The car apparently completed the final test earlier today.

McLaren will launch its new F1 car on Friday with an online event.
